Probably everyone at some point has imagined being the only real person in the whole world or universe. Not that you truly believed it, but it allowed your mind a unique perspective: a world created by [your name here].

After I saw The Matrix (the first movie), I didn't feel right with reality for days. I had to try to redefine reality for myself. I never actually had it figured out in the first place. I don't like simply accepting anything for what it is or seems to be.

So what is it? How do you describe to anyone what is real? Is it enough to say that something is real when it can be perceived by one or more of our five basic senses - seeing, smelling, hearing, tasting, and touching?

What of dreams? All five senses can be experienced in dreams, smell and taste being the least reported. Do dreams count as "reality"? Well, no. Could they be some type of reality at all? In my opinion, sure.

If you become lucid in a vivid dream enough to explore your surroundings, do you not find objects to be solid, the floor firm beneath your feet, etc? But it is your reality; if you wanted to sink your foot into marble, you could. This defies the laws of physics as we know them in the waking world, but in dreams it is natural to be able to defy those laws and manipulate your environment (if you're able to control the dream, that is).

The point is, you can consciously explore your dreamworld in much the same way you can the real world. It's real to our minds as we're dreaming. So, are dreams a reality? Is reality just a dream?

Maybe someday you'll wake up and realize your whole life was just a dream...or a nightmare, whichever your case may be.
