[Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 | 1:32 am] My husband said something interesting yesterday that made me think. He asked, what if there are other universes?
My first thought was our universe was the only one and everything existed within it. This thought lasted only a couple of seconds before my mind opened up to the possibilities. Is the one we live in the only one? Could there be other universes completely separate from ours? And if there are, do they, or could they, overlap? Pondering this, I wondered what is outside our universe. What is our universe expanding into? We have explanations for what's causing its expansion, but what is allowing it? I have some thinking to do. My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all. --Stephen Hawking, physicist (can't alter your past) - (can't escape your destiny) |
